Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was an astronomer and astrophysicist. It was Payne who first discovered that stars are made primarily of hydrogen and helium. Her colleagues called her thesis: "Undoubtedly the most brilliant Ph. D. thesis ever written in Astronomy."
